My Experience as a mentee in Women Who Code Delhi — Week 3
“The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.”
Indeed it’s a true statement. This week was focussed on trying and trying till you get that green tick. During our mentorship call, Himanshi Ma’am first asked us about our progress and the contests we gave the previous week. Later she advised us to find out about the scholarships for women in STEM. Also, she provided us with a list of DSA questions which I solved with an utmost dedication this week.
As this week was primarily focussed on scholarship opportunities, I jotted down a few of them which might be helpful for others too.
a. Nutanix Heart Women In Technology Scholarship.
Nutanix provides scholarship to women in technology worth $2000. This year it is open for all female undergraduates in India. The initial application form has to be filled which had one essay type question (500 words) and a few questions regarding our internship experience and co-curricular activities. I did take out time from my schedule to start writing the essay as the more we edit/review the better our answers get.
b. Women Techmakers Engineering Fellows
It is a very famous scholarship. The winners get a scholarship amount worth Rs. 2,00,000 plus a sponsored trip to Google’s office. Well, that’s fascinating. The applications have not yet started this year.
c. Adobe Design Circle Scholarships
For all the budding Graphic Designers, this one is for you. Along with a written/video essay question, one needs to provide links to one’s portfolio to demonstrate one’s skills.
These were a few scholarships that I found beneficial for the 2024 Batch.
Other than the scholarship part, I also spent my time, solving DSA questions provided by Himanshi Ma’am and giving coding contests. Upsolving questions really help to get out of that constant rating zone.
In the development part, this week I developed a React only website. This is the first website I developed without using any API calls (since I am more of a backend person). Here is the link to the website. Do star the repository on Github if you like it.
Summing up, this week was also filled with a lot of learnings and awareness. By the end of three weeks, I have realised that the women community lacks awareness. We have lots of opportunities but we often fail to make the most out of them since we get to know about them only when someone posts about it on LinkedIn. WWC-Delhi is doing a great job of bringing them together and making them aware of all the opportunities available. Looking forward to learning and discovering more in the upcoming weeks.
