Located at the banks of River Chambal, Kota (Rajasthan, India) is now an established coaching centre of India. Lakhs of students come to this holy place of education, with the hope of cracking the prestigious entrance examinations.

Hanging Bridge, Kota

I have personally spent 2 years celebrating education there. Here’s a quick insight into what you need to know before starting your journey of Kota.

  1. Get yourself a comfortable accommodation.
A regular single room in the Hostel

In the land of Thar Desert ( although it looks more modernized), prepare yourself to face the merciless summers and chilling winters. But to help you out, there are various hostels and PG’s (Paying Guest) available. Most of the hostels are better than college’s hostel. It’s very difficult to survive the summers without Air Cooler or Air Conditioner, so please make sure you have any one of these in your room ( it is generally provided). For the winters, don’t forget to bring your warm clothes and a blanket.

Maids and workers are available for every Hostel to clean the room regularly. Also, Laundry facility is prominent. A student, and also parents need not worry about daily chores.

2. Learn to tolerate mess food.

The mess food ( You will get fed up after the repetative menu)

I won’t say that all mess food is bad. But if you expect to get the same taste as home-cooked food, then please change your mind. Learn to adjust with the food. Bring your own Ghee, pickle, Jam, Mayonnaise etc. as your taste buds desire. Don’t be too dependent on the street food ( Kota is famous for its mouth-watering “Kachoris”). “Aloo Patties” will be a refreshing treat but try to limit such things in your diet. Zomato and Swiggy online food delivery services are available too.

You are going to crave for the “Diwali Vacations” not only to meet your loved ones but also to taste “Homemade Food”.

3. Keep Yourself Hydrated.

Summers are extreme. Moreover, classes’ timings will compel you to walk out in the afternoon. Weakness will seize you. The only refreshing diet is lots of water. Drink plenty of water, coconut water and fruit juices. Soft drinks will be available at every store too. Make sure you always have enough water. A fresh mind is necessary to do wonders.

4. Study Smart.

Soon you will realize, competition is at its peak. Lakhs of students studying religiously to secure a seat in the most prestigious institutes of India. Sice day one, remember you are your own competition. Every day you must rise to learn new. Each day you waste, remember you dropped your rank by 500 which isn’t feasible.

Make interactive notes, complete the assignments, modules must be thorough. Complete your assignments in the given time to improve speed and accuracy. Notes are very important as a month before the D-Day, these notes will be your saviour. Never hesitate to ask doubts from the teachers. Solve previous years papers and never skip the tests.

Teachers will never spoonfeed you. Remember that the selection ratio is extremely small.

Tests give the real picture of the main day. You will learn the sequence of subjects you need to attempt. The time needed to complete each subject will be clear. Also, your OMR filling skills will improve, (or sitting in front of the screen for three hours). The complete strategy is framed only when you give the periodic tests.

5. Give time to your Parents

Please share all your thoughts, worries and even your plan with your parents. After being in the company of your parents for the past many years and then coming to this new city to pursue your dreams, you have already taken a bold step. Just the same way, parting away from their child was not an easy option for them too. So, they too deserve love and respect from your side. Giving them the daily details and being truthful will prevent you from falling into appealing traps of Gamming, Smoking etc.

6. This is Not The End.

Keep your mind focussed on the target. At the same time remember that even if you fail, there are a lot more opportunities waiting for you. Your efforts will never go in vain. Instead of crying at the closed door, look for further paths. Success will be celebrated. But don’t get lost in this success that your first year in college gets ruined. It’s just the end of a phase in life, not your destination.

Welcome to the exciting journey of Studies, the journey of Kota. Toil hard day and Night to chase your dreams. Give your Best and gift your loved ones the precious smile when they will be proud of you one day! All the Best!
